Structural Features
This project consists of a 31,500sqm warehouse with a 30m super awning and 20m cantilevered awning. Internally, there were 3No. transfer beams running the full 260m length of the building, with beams spaced 30m apart supported by internal columns at approximately 25m centres. Due to the large tributary areas of the transfer beam columns, there were very large uplift forces on the footings due to solar wind load cases. To combat this whilst keeping reasonable footing sizes, the high-level pad footings were tied into the ground improvement rigid inclusions. The ground improvement contractor then designed these rigid inclusions to resist the uplift forces nominated, whilst also ensuring they settled in line with the surrounding inclusions underneath the floor slab.
